Spitz dogs from the north west of Alaska, these dogs were hunting partners of the Inuit people, helping to track big game like seals and polar bears. They would also help haul the game home after the kill, and are known for their ability to pull heavy loads over long distances. They helped in the gold rush there as well as search and rescue missions during WWII.
These are powerful dogs that need exercise to remain well behaved. They bond very tightly to the family and most people but can engage in predatory behaviour when cats or other small animals are around They howl and dig. These dogs are not good at finding their way home so they should not be off leash, except in enclosed areas.
