State dog of Wisconsin, this dog was first bred in that very region. While smaller than the English or Irish Field Spaniels, this dog is a field dog first and last. The dog’s size is such that it can can fit into boats easily, in order to retrieve prey. This breed is relatively recent, only coming about in the 19th Century.
This is not a family dog. It can be skittish and noisy. It doesn’t always get along with other dogs. This breed is best owned by a hunter, rather than a family, so that it can be kept busy.
