While their forbearers were probably Polish, these dogs came into their own in Scotland, working sheep and cattle. These dogs were so valued that they were hoarded by Scottish farmers for a long time. It wasn’t till the mid 20th century that they spread out to England and America. It is still used well as a herder.

Take the time when they are young to teach them what you want. It will pay off. They want to do the jobs assigned to them, but will go about solving problems on their own. They are exhuberant and high energy. When you can actually see their eyes, they are bright with intelligence. Not a great match for small children as it may nip at their heels to round them up.
