These dogs had to be fast enough to keep up with horses and small enough to burrow after game like foxes, making them the perfect farmer’s companion. They are named for the Border Hunt, in which fox are hunted down and killed. They were also effective ratters.
This is one of those terriers that actually gets along with other dogs. It is curious and friendly and a nice family dog. They will dig and bark, especially if not exercised. They are great with kids but are known for getting out of confined spaces. A very intelligent breed.
