Working as a French cattle herder, these dogs also worked as a guard dog for the farms. When WWI hit France, almost all of the breed was destroyed. A few survived and the breed was brought back from the brink. They are not well known to the general public, but well known at herding shows.
This dogs also needs his exercise and can be wonderfully behaved inside once he has gotten it. While very loyal to its family, this dog will be protective with strangers and can be aggressive with other dogs. The breed doesn’t know anything about fear. It is a poor choice for homes with children, as it may nip at their heels to herd them.
