One of the French sheepdogs, this breed was brought about in Brie. These were used, primarily, as herd protectors against wolves. They were also used as guard dogs for estates. It wasn’t till after the French Revolution that they began to actually herd on a consistent basis. This is the most popular sheep herder in France.
These dogs are willing to do a lot to gain your affection. They bond very tightly to people and want to serve the humans in the family. Strangers are not welcome in their viewpoint. Other dogs may be met with aggressiveness and a great deal of socialization will be needed for this breed. The breed is intelligent and brave, but can play by nipping heels. Not the best dog for homes with kids. This dog also doesn’t do well with an unstable or constantly changing home environment. It craves for things to be “normal”.
