Raised by French aristocracy, they are not well known, being a dog of the nobility. They were bred with a basset’s nose so they will be sniffing the ground. There is also some spaniel in the mix. If the dogs had not been exported to Britain just before the French Revolution, the breed would not exist today.
Bonds well to a single person and can appear quite lazy. These are low key dogs. Family members can get it some much needed play time in for exercise, but strangers may leave it more reserved. With the constant ear cleaning that is required, these dogs are fairly patient.
