This breed probably came from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and some of the Asian toy breeds, possibly the Pug. It is believed that Mary, Queen of Scots, popularized the breed as lap warmers.
These dogs are committed to the family and do well with kids. They are playful and attentive to moods around the house, but tend to be a little stand-offish with strangers. Inside they remain gentle but playful. They can be quite willful at times.
