These dogs were in the same area as the Bernese but in different villages. They did the same jobs, protecting the herds and flocks, as well as their homes. They did not come to America until the 1970s. They are also close relatives of the St Bernard.
Bonding tightly with the family, these are protective dogs who can be territorial. They are wonderful with children, being very patient, but not so with strangers. They will bark and may not like other dogs.
