Used to point out and retrieve birds, this dog was bred to be easily seen. Its strong nose was also a benefit to hunters. This is not a water dog. The Irish Red & White is sometimes considered part of the same breed and sometimes considered separate.
High energy bird dog that will be wonderful with families if given enough exercise. They are not guard dogs by any stretch of the imagination and should not be expected to protect the house or its occupants. They stay active for years and are good with children.
