An Irish dog in origin, it was adapt at both tunneling and pursuing game. After the farms fell away, this dog made a name for itself as a herder and occasionally as a police dog.
This is a dog that does a lot. It is territorial but well mannered with proper training. It can be a little much for small children, as it likes to herd. It does bark and can be stubborn. It will be reserved with those that the owner has not recognized but friendly with people the owner greets. It is not great to have with other pets.
