Bred in England as herders and protectors from wolves, these dogs had to have their tails docked. This allowed herders to prove that the dog was used as a herder and therefore exempt from dog taxes.
This is a happy high energy dog that is still able to be gentle. It absolutely requires humans to interact with and doesn’t stray far from the home or the humans. This breed loves all the members of the family, rather than just one, and will be gracious towards strangers as well. They tend to herd children but without the nipping of heels that we see so often in the herding class.
