Lion dogs, known this way because of their resemblance to lions, were treated like royalty throughout their existence in China.  During the Tang Dynasty, they were often carried in the master’s sleeves and called slave dogs.  These dogs often had their own servants to pamper them. As with so many breeds, Queen Victoria was given a few and their popularity in Europe and America came out of that gift.

This is a lap dog, but not a cuddly dog.  They want attention when they want it, rather than when you want it.  They are not known for giving their attentions easily. They are, however, known quite well for stubbornness. While not an aggressor in fights, they will often refuse to back down once something has begun. Of course, with their compromised respiratory tracts, they cannot handle long bouts of playing.
