These dogs came to be very useful with the advent of flintlock guns. With the time needed to load a weapon, the hunter needed a dog that would point out the prey and hold position until the gun was ready to be fired, which could take a moment. They have also been used alongside greyhounds to point out rabbits, which the greyhounds then hunted down.
This is a highly energetic bird dog. They can be destructive if not properly exercised, but are incredibly friendly. These dogs are as happy as any Lab that you might come across, and are always hunting. When going for a walk, they can be easily distracted by birds or squirrels. This dog needs a job or a series of tasks to be happy.
