Prized for the ability to take down deer, the dog has great speed and strength available. It was not legal for anyone under the title of Earl to own one for a long time. The Scottish designation came from the time the breech loading rifles came about and the deer were nearly wiped out in England. The only place the deer were still about was in the Scottish Highlands, where the dogs flourished.

This dog loves to run, but will need soft places to lie down, due to prominent bones. They are accepting of strangers but not outgoing with them.  They are patient enough to be good with kids.
