Crossed with a Black and Tan Terrier and a Whippet, these dogs were made to be an efficient ratter. Inbreeding almost killed the breed in the late 1800s, but better breeding practices have helped to work out the infirmities that were so rampant. This breed is also known as the English Toy Terrier.
This dog can be confusing to some people. It is timid in situations outside of its comfort zone, but when feeling safe they can be fierce players. Their ratter heritage may reveal itself if you have smaller animals at home, such as cats.
