While meat, in and of itself is not a problem, the various bacteria that can be present is a problem. Cooking eliminates most bacteria but if the meat is raw both salmonella and clostridium can be present. Other bacteria are possible but these two are the most common. If your dog does get sick from a bacterial infection, his diarrhea can spread the infection to you, so use caution. Symptoms for these two bacterial infections can include:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal Cramping
- Abdominal Swelling
- Colitis
- Loss of Appetite
- Dehydration
