An active agent used to treat osteoarthritis.  It has pain relieving and anti-inflammatory effects.  It can come in a chewable pill or as an injection.  Because we want dogs to eat the medicine, the pills are liver flavored, encourages them to eat as many as possible.  Aside from an obvious overdose, dogs can also develop a sensitivity to the drug over time.  The liver and renal system can suffer moderate effects.  If you witness symptoms, contact your Vet immediately.  Symptoms can include:

  • Vomiting
  • Bloody Vomit
  • Diarrhea
  • Black Tarry Stool
  • Lack of Appetite
  • Jaundiced Skin
  • Changes in Water Intake
  • Changes in Urination
  • General Malaise
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Seizures
