This houseplant is used in many ways medicinally, both topically and orally, for a variety of issues, from burns to constipation to ulcerative colitis. The aloe that is used orally has been stabilized so that it does not oxidize but that will not happen with the plant. This can lead to problems with saponins, a mild to moderate toxin.  Symptoms can present both dermatologically as well as gastrointestinally and effects will increase exponetially with dosage.  Symptoms can include:

  • Depression
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Skin Irritation
  • Itching
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Tremors
  • Changes in Urine Color
