The toxins in this plant, arbutin, aricoline, and rhodoxanthine, are found in the leaves and galls.  They work primarily on the gastrointestinal tract but in large quantities, the respiratory, circulatory and nervous system can all be affected.  Symptoms can include:

  • Drooling
  • Lack of Appetite
  • Trembling
  • Vomiting, watery and violent
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Colic
  • Spasms
  • Convulsions
  • Rapid Breathing
  • Coma
