A common field weed, the entire plant is poisonous but the flowers contain the highest concentration of toxin. The active chemical is protoanemonin and is so bitter than poisonings are uncommon. The toxin is severe in large doses and symptoms can include:
- Drooling
- Blisters in the Oral Cavity
- Swelling of the Mouth
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Weakness
- Lack of Coordination
- Tremors
- Seizures
- Blood Tinged Urine
