A shrub that is very tough, this plant is mildly to moderately toxic, due to quinzolzidine alkaloids contained throughout the entire plant. Multiple systems are affected by the toxins, including gastrointestinal, circulatory, and neurological. It has been used as a folk remedy for multiple uses, but large amounts will have adverse effects. Symptoms can include:
