See Congenital Heart Defect.  This is a narrowing of the aortic valve of the left side of the heart that is present at birth.  The narrowing places too much pressure on the heart and causes a thickening of the heart wall.  This opening can be valvular, meaning at the valve, or subvalvular, meaning below the valve, or supravalvular, meaning above the valve.  The severity of the constriction will dictate the severity damage to the heart.  Larger breeds are the ones that are prone to this condition.  Symptoms can include:

  • Abnormal Heart Sounds
  • Difficulty Breathing
  • Rapid Breathing
  • Fainting
  • Heart Failure
