This is a disease that occurs when parasites, called coccidia are present in the gastrointestinal tract.  Usually, this only affects dogs for the first six months of their lives, as an immunity is developed over time.  While the adult dogs do not suffer any symptoms, they can still carry the infection and spread it through feces.  Inhalation or ingestion of infected feces will spread the disease quickly through a population and will take approximately two weeks to present symptoms.  Symptoms can include:

  • Diarrhea with Mucus Discharge
  • Weight Loss
  • Dehydration
  • Occasional Vomting
  • Damage to Intestinal Lining
