This is a condition of loose skinned dogs where the lower eyelid rolls out, away from the eyeball, and exposes the inner eyelid.  This results in an exposure of the eyeball that can lead to certain difficulties, including pain and damage to the eyeball.  This drooping eyelid is a common and very obvious condition for certain breeds such as; Basset Hound, Bloodhound, Bulldog, Cocker Spaniel, Mastiff, Newfoundland, and Saint Bernard.  Symptoms can include:

  • Facial Staining from Tear Drainage
  • Discharge
  • Redness or Swelling of Inner Eyelid
  • Watery Eyes
  • More Common Occurrence of Foreign Objects Caught in Eye
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Rubbing of Eyes
