This is a bacterial infection of white blood cells that is passed on by ticks, specifically the Brown Dog Tick and Lone Star Tick.  The infection will destroy the white blood cells and platelets in the body.  Other systems in the body can be affected, especially with bleeding and hemorrhage issues.  Once the infection has occurred, there is an acute phase that shows initial and light symptoms.  There is a subclinical stage in which there are no symptoms and can last for years.  There is a final stage in which renewed and life threatening symptoms will occur.
