Any person having an animal in his care, as defined in section 331, may deliver a dog to a humane society or other facility for the care of disposition of such animals or, in the care of a dog or cat, to a pound. If such action is taken, the person that the animal was abandoned with will inform by registered letter to the last known address of the owner on file. If the animal is not claimed within five days, the animal is to be placed for adoption or euthanized.
